Avatar Contest change: Black and White art now being accepted

Over the weekend, me and the boss discussed the idea that some of you might prefer to work in black and white; and that there might be times in which we would have to use a black and white avatar in such instances that a color document is not possible (faxes, for instance). So with that...

We are now going to have a separate category for black and white art! Same basic rules, just that now you can try your hand at a black and white avatar! And yes, you can submit one entry for color, another for black and white. The prize for the color art is still $100, but the prize for the black and white art is $50. If you happen to be so excellent as to be the winner for both color AND black and white, then you could get $150 total out of this!

Thing is, though - if you're going to submit work to both the color and the black and white contests, then note that THEY HAVE TO BE DIFFERENT WORKS! LOL

In other words, we will not accept a color and a black and white version of the same art! Yeah, we thought of some of you lazy asses trying to get away with submitting the same work to both contests! Nope, if you're going to win both contests, then you gotta work for it! :-D

And besides, we want you to challenge your creativity in this, because color and black and white art present different creative impressions, so it's best to work with each format's strengths rather than trying to present the same art in both formats. See, we're trying to help you guys be better artists!

Anyway, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask, but it's pretty straightforward, don't you think? :-)

Good luck, whether you try just one of the contests or both!

Cool. B & W art is now being accepted. This is going to be fun on the bun. Just so you know, that is a Bender quote from Futurama. Later.

New topic! What do you think about the issue with 2012? Do you think it's another over-hyped topic such as Y2K?

Has there been a lot of entries since the contest started?

No, so far there hasn't been a lot of entries so far. Most likely the artists are still in the planning stages and if there are more entries coming, it will be towards the end of the month as the deadline looms.

As for as the issue with 2012, I am not familiar with any issue related to that year, particularly if it's a sort of a Y2K thing. Enlighten, please.

With regards to 2012, the Mayans in anicient times developed a calendar that ran for centuries. The problem is that they didn't finish the calendar and it ran until 2012 (or so the story goes). For years people believe that the world is going to end in 2012 (December 21, 2012). Personally, I think the whole thing is total BS.

I also believe that 2012, is similiar to the events in 1999 and the whole Y2K issue. Y2K (the year 2000) was a problem that the world was facing because all computer mainframes had the year set up for two digits (i.e. 98 for 1998). To correct the problem, fours digits needed to be set for the year. This task was not a problem for Computer Engineers.

But of course, the media gets everyone hyped up that ALL computer systems around the is going to crash. To give you an idea of what I'm talking about, people thought this was going to be a Skynet Doomsday scenario from Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. But of course nothing happened when January 1, 2000 rolled around. The funny thing is Andromeda, companies made
money off thing problem. Matt Groening's Futurama is a perfect example. I hope I made you a little wiser about the 2012 issue.
